Book Talk

What are you reading? Wednesday — on a Thursday

I’ve realized that lately, most of my posts have been review focused. In an attempt to bring more book discussion to this blog, I am going to start joining in on some of the book memes that so many fabulous book bloggers take part in. One post that I have seen others do is the What are you reading? Wednesday challenge. This challenge asks us to post about three books:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish?
  3. What do you think you will read next?

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking on a World of Words

It wasn’t until after I posted this that I remembered it was Thursday. But I thought I’d keep this up anyway. Hah!

Currently, I am listening to Adnan’s Story: The Search for Truth and Justice After Serial by Rabia Chaudry. As many others, I was completely enraptured with the first season of Serial and of course ate of the many podcasts that came into existence because of that first season, include Undisclosed, featuring the author as one of the hosts. [Side note: My favorite podcast is Crime Writers On… which started out as a podcast with three true crime authors and one fiction author; they have evolved from discussing Serial to discussing other podcasts (specifically about true crime events) and other pop culture goings on.] Even with listening to both of those podcasts, I am finding that there is still so much to learn about Adnan and his case. I am really enjoying it and hoping to finish it in the next few days.

I most recently finished a lovely memoir, Birds Art Life by Kyo Maclear, which you can read the review about here. This was a beautifully written memoir, taking place over the course of a year while Maclear learns about the beauty of birdwatching, discusses her writing and art, as well as pieces of her life – both past and present. Incredibly well written (and full of fabulous doodles!).

A book — well, a series — I am currently excited about reading is Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events [link will take you to the first book in the series]. I have never ready these books (I’ve been intrigued by them for years but never took the plunge). I am a fan of the movie but after watching the new Netflix series of the same name (which is based on the first four books), I knew that I really wanted to check this series out. I got the first book on Kindle recently but learned earlier today that Tim Curry is the narrator of the audiobooks and have decided that that will need to be the route that I take for this journey.

So tell me… what are you reading this Wednesday?

    1. Thanks! I read a little bit of it last night — was good so far! Happy to have a series that I can read in-between bigger books, kind of like a palate cleanser.

I look forward to participating again! Hopefully actually on a Wednesday, hah!
